ACT! 2011 (13) Hotfix 5

This hot fix requires that Sage ACT! 2011 Service Pack 1 (SP1) be installed before applying this update. If you have not yet installed SP1, please do so before applying this hot fix.

This documentation describes Hot Fix 1 for Sage ACT! 2011 for the following versions:

  • Sage ACT! Pro 2011
  • Sage ACT! Premium 2011
  • Sage ACT! Premium 2011 (access via web)

You should not try and apply this update to any other version or build of ACT!.


Warning: Do not apply this hot fix to any other versions or builds of the software. To determine the version of the product you are using, select Help, then About ACT! from the ACT! main menu.

Who should apply this Hot Fix

Important: If you have not previously applied a hotfix to Act! 2011 SP1 you must apply this hot fix to all machines that employ remote database synchronization. This includes all machines that contain the Main Synchronization Database (Publisher), Main Remote Database (Subscriber), and machines that have the ACT! Network or ACT! Internet Sync Services installed. All machines must have this hotfix applied for synchronization to continue. Check installed version by going to Help and About Act!. Consult with your administrator before applying this in a sync environment.

Sage ACT! 2011 hot fixes are cumulative, so the latest hot fix will include the benefits of all earlier hot fixes for this version. It is not required to install earlier hot fixes prior to installing the latest hot fix.


Hot Fix 5 for Sage ACT! 2011 SP1 is designed to resolve the following issues:

  • After entering\editing data in the company list view, you are unable to save due to a recurring error “Unable to continue in ACT! without saving the company name.”
  • When importing information into another database using the default mapping and merge options, you see that first, middle, and last names are not mapping correctly.
  • You add an attachment to the Contacts, Groups, Companies or Opportunities documents tab, and see that the tab fails to display the attachment correctly.
  • When a Sage ACT! v2011 remote edits a document previously synced from the parent site, changes fail to sync back to the parent.
  • After setting up an email system to use Sage ACT! 2011 email, the option to attach existing email to contacts, companies, or groups is unavailable.
  • In French, Polish, and German Sage ACT!, the Change ACT! Database dialog box includes English language text.
  • When you enter a company name that exceeds the length of the company name field, the company name is truncated.
  • When you enter a contact name that exceeds the length of the contact name field, the contact name is truncated.
  • When you run the Gross Margin by Product report, you notice that the calculation for Total Cost is incorrect.
  • You see that Microsoft® Outlook® takes a long time to load when the Sage ACT! address book has been added and Exchange Cache mode in Outlook has been disabled.
  • You are using a localized version of Sage ACT! and see that umlauts are stripped from the content of any email that also contains a graphic.
  • You are using remote database synchronization and see that record information is not being exchanged correctly when changes are entered to the same record at both the parent and the remote sites during a single sync cycle.
  • You see that attachments with file names exceeding 15 characters are stripped from email messages received using the Sage ACT! Email client.
  • You notice that Keyword search fails to return all expected records.
  • Your database contains one or more custom entities that include spillover tables and the following error displays when running a query on one of those tables: “Ambiguous column name ‘EventsID’.
  • You have edited a template in your Sage ACT! Premium (access via web) database and are unable to save the template to a public directory.
  • You see that attachments with names that exceed 15 characters are stripped from email messages sent using Sage ACT! email.
  • You are using a localized version of Sage ACT!, and see that the Maximize button in the Keysearch window is unavailable.
  • You are using a German version of Sage ACT! 2011, and see that the word ‘location’ is translated incorrectly in the Appointment Activity Send Email invitation.
  • You are using Sage ACT! with Microsoft® Windows® 7 and Microsoft Office® 2007, and see performance degrade after sending an email through Sage ACT! to a contact and then creating or clearing an activity.
  • You are using Microsoft Outlook Integration with Sage ACT! and see performance degrade after sending an email to a contact, opening the calendar, and then opening the task list.
  • You are using Sage ACT! 2011 Service Pack 1 with Microsoft Word 2007 or 2010 and notice that the Quick Print function in Word 2007/2010 is disabled.
  • You have cleared the Allow history creation for email sent from a user of this database to another user option (Tools>Preferences> Admin), but find that email sent to other users incorrectly adds files to the attachments folder.
  • You are using Sage ACT! 2011 Service Pack 1 with ACT! Email and see the options to attach a file or a photo are unavailable.
  • You are using Sage ACT! Premium for Web and, after using Lookup to find a group of records, you see that the Contact Detail page is blank, you are unable to page through the Contacts returned in the lookup, and returning to the Contact List view causes you to be logged out of the database.
  • You are using Sage ACT! Premium for Web and are unable to change Record Creation options in the Web Client. You are using an English language version of Sage ACT!, but the new Data Chart properties display French options.
  • You are using Sage ACT! with Outlook Integration over Terminal Server and see an error if more than one Sage ACT! user is logged in.
  • You are using Sage ACT! Premium 2011 (access via web) with Microsoft® Outlook® integration enabled and notice that Sage ACT! is not listed as an available address book in Outlook.
  • You are using Sage ACT! Premium 2011 (access via web) and see a distorted view when attempting to customize columns in the Contact List.
  • You are using Microsoft  Office® 2007 with a Dutch language version of Sage ACT! and see, that when you create a quote from a new opportunity, the Excel® portion of the quote fails to populate.
  • You have applied the SP1 update to Sage ACT! 2011, made a copy of your database via the File > Save Copy option, and see unexpected error messages when attempting to set your duplicate checking options in the copy of the database.
  • You have applied the SP1 update to Sage ACT! 2011, made a copy of your database via the File > Save Copy option, and see unexpected error messages when attempting to delete a user account in the copy of the database.
  • You  have applied the SP1 update to Sage ACT! 2011, have remote databases, have setup Outlook Contact Synchronization, and are seeing data inconsistency between the Publisher database, Remote databases, and Outlook when synchronizing.
  • You have applied  the SP1 update to Sage ACT! 2011 and are now unable to use the Outlook Add-In for Sage ACT!.

Companies

After entering\editing data in the company list view, users are unable to save due to a recurring error “Unable to continue in ACT! without saving the company name.”

Prevents the Company Name file data from being deleted.

Database Import

When importing information into another database using the default mapping and merge options, data loss occurs because first, middle, and last names are not mapping correctly.

Enable the name data to be imported into the correct fields

Attachments

After attaching a document in the Documents tab and then changing the layout, the Documents tab does not refresh (continues to show the attachment for the previous record).

Alters tabs (in the primary entity view) that contain list views to reflect changes.

Remote Synchronization

When a file on the Documents tab is synched to a remote database, edited, and then synchronized again, the original document is not updated.

Changes the name of the synched document.

Company List View

After entering or editing data in the Company List view, users are unable to save due to a recurring error “Unable to continue in ACT! without saving the company name.”

Prevents the Company Name file data from being deleted.

Contacts

When you enter a company name that exceeds the length of the company name field, the company name is truncated.

Positions the cursor at the beginning of text; text appears properly.

When you enter a contact name that exceeds the length of the contact name field, the contact name is truncated.

Email

After setting up an email system to use Sage ACT! 2011 email, the option to attach existing email to contacts, companies, or groups is unavailable.

Enables the Attach option.

Outlook Integration

In the French, Polish, and German product, the Change ACT! Database dialog box includes unlocalized text.

Properly translates the Change ACT! Database dialog box.

Outlook Integration

Microsoft Outlook takes a long time to load if the Sage ACT! address book has been added and Exchange Cache mode is disabled in Outlook.

Enables Outlook to load more quickly.

Email

Localized versions of Sage ACT! strip umlauts from the content of any email that also contains a graphic.

Prevents the umlauts from being stripped from the email.

Remote Synchronization

Changes applied to the same record at both the parent and the remote sites during a single cycle do not synchronize correctly.

Enables the record information to be synchronized correctly.

Email

Attachments with names that exceed 15 characters are stripped from email messages received using Sage ACT! email.

Enables attachments to be received correctly.

Search - Keyword

Keyword search fails to return all appropriate records.

Enables all records fitting the search criteria to be returned.

Search - Queries

The following error displays when running a query on a customer entity that includes spillover tables. “Ambiguous column name ‘EventsID’."

Enables the query to run without error.

Template

When editing a template in Sage ACT! Premium for Web, the option to save the template anywhere except the local computer is not offered.

Enables the user to choose where to save the edited template.

Search - Keyword

When using a localized version of Sage ACT!, the Maximize button in the Keysearch window is unavailable.

Activates the Keysearch window Maximize button.

Activities

In the German version of Sage ACT! 2011, ‘location’ is translated incorrectly in the Appointment Activity Send Email invitation.

Replaces “Ablageort” with the more appropriate translation “Ort”.

When using Sage ACT! with Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007, performance degrades after sending an email to a contact and then creating or clearing an activity.

Removes the performance degradation.

Microsoft Office Integration

The Sage ACT! Office Add-In in version 2011 Service Pack 1 disables the Quick Print function in Word 2007 and 2010.

Enables the Quick Print function in Word to work as expected.

Email

Dashboard

When using a non-localized version of Sage ACT!, the new Data Chart properties display options in French.

Displays the Data Chart properties in English as expected.

Outlook Integration -  Terminal Services

When using Sage ACT! Outlook Integration where the host machine is a  Terminal Server, the second user to log on and any additional users after that see an Act.Outlook.Sync.exe error.

Enables multiple users to log in to and use Sage ACT! Outlook Integration via Terminal Server without generating the errors.

When using Sage ACT! Premium for Web with Microsoft Outlook integration enabled, Sage ACT! is not listed as an available address book in Microsoft Outlook.

When using Microsoft Office 2007 with a Dutch language version of Sage ACT! and creating a quote from a new opportunity, the Excel portion of the quote fails to populate.

Enables the Excel portion of the quote to populate as expected.

Opportunities - Quotes

You are using Sage ACT! Premium for Web and see a distorted view when attempting to customize columns in the Contact List.

Prevents the distortion and enables the Contact List view to display correctly.

Save Copy As

Attempting to set criteria for duplicate checking in a database copied using File>Save Copy As causes the following error to display: “The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint “SYSTABLEKEY_SYSCOLUMN_TAB LEID_FK”. The conflict occurred in database “(database name),” table “dbo.TBL_SYSTABLEKEY_SYSCOL UMN,” column “TABLEKEYID>.” The statement has been terminated.

Enables the user to successfully specify criteria for duplicate checking in the copy of the database without receiving the error.

Save Copy As

Attempting to delete a user from a database copied using File>Save Copy As causes the following error to display: “The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "LOGONHISTORY_USERID_FK". The conflict occurred in database "empty_test_SP1", table "dbo.TBL_LOGONHISTORY", column 'USERID'. PRC_DEL_ACCESSOR: ERROR OCCURRED ATTEMPTING TO DELETE USER RECORD TBL_USER. The statement has been terminated.

Enables the user to successfully delete users from Sage ACT! when connected to the copy of the database without receiving the error.

Synchronization - Remote Databases

After updating Sage ACT! 2011 to SP1, with Outlook Contact Sync and remote databases, data synchronizes inconsistently. Data inconsistency is visible across the Publisher database, Remote databases, and Outlook.

Enables contact data to sync correctly.

Outlook Integration

Customers with 32-bit operating systems who update to Sage ACT! 2011 SP1 are unable to use any Sage ACT! Outlook Add-in functionality after having previously installed another application that puts that puts certain registry keys into 64-bit operating system mode.

Enables the Sage ACT! Outlook Add-in to function successfully.


Applying the Hot Fix

This hot fix is for Sage ACT! 2011 SP1. Do not apply this hot fix to any other version of ACT!. To determine the version of the Sage ACT! you are using, click Help from the main menu, then click About ACT!. After this hot fix has been installed, the version number will read 13.1.111.0, Hot Fix 5.

Apply this hot fix to the Sage ACT! database server and all client machines.

Steps to applying the Hot Fix

    Step 1. Download the Hot Fix - We have provided download links to both English and French versions

    Step 2. Log onto to your computer as an Administrator.

    Step 3. If you are running Network Sync, you must stop the Network Sync Service before applying this hot fix:

    • Click Start.
    • In the Run box, type IISReset /stop.
    • Click OK.

    Step 4. When the download dialog box comes up, choose Save and save to your Desktop.

    Step 5. After the download completes, close Sage ACT!, Internet Explorer® and all Microsoft® Office applications.

    Step 6. Locate the ACT2011HotFix.exe file that you downloaded to your desktop and double-click it to begin the installation.

    Step 7. The Unpacking ACT! progress indicator briefly appears followed by the Disclaimer dialog box.

    Step 8. Review the disclaimer, and then click OK

    Step 9. The installer verifies your Windows® rights and ensures that no open programs will conflict with the hot fix installation. If any of these conditions exist, the appropriate message will appear. Please follow the on screen instructions.

    Step 10. The ACT! - Applying Updates window appears while the hot fix is being installed.

    Step 11. When finished the ACT! dialog box appears.

    Step 12. Click Ok to complete the installation.

    Step 13. For all Windows Vista® and Windows® 7 users with User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will see a Program Compatibility Assistant dialog box. Click This program installed correctly to complete the installation.

    Step 14. If your installation includes remote database synchronization, restart the Network Sync Service now.

    Step 15. If you are using the Internet Sync Service, you must reset IIS:

    • Click Start.
    • In the Run box, type IISReset.
    • Click OK.

    Step 16. Start Sage ACT!

    Step 17. From the Help menu, select About. The version number should be "13.1.111.0, Hot Fix 5."
